A remembrance of the Great Fire of 1871 will be held on Saturday, October 5 at the Belgian Heritage Center. Captain David Siegel of the Green Bay Metro Fire Department (retired) will speak about the unusual nature of the Great Fire and why it was so deadly for so many. A re-enactment of the experiences of Emmerence Gaspart Englebert, a Great Fire survivor will be performed by her great-granddaughter, Barb Englebert Chisholm. Following the presentations, join David at Tornado Memorial Park (8518 County DK) to see the path of the fire and where the Williamsonville fire victims sought refuge.

Everyone is welcome and there is no admission required. We especially encourage students and anyone who wants to learn more about the Great Fire to attend. If you can’t join us at BHC, we invite you to learn about the Great Fire at BHC YouTube Channel.

BHC will be at the National Shrine of Our Lady of Champion on Tuesday, October 8 as part of their Solemnity Week events.  BHC will feature exhibits, historic photo collections and a series of presentations in Mother of Mercy Hall from noon to 5:30.

Raffle tickets are now available for this year's Hunters Raffle at BHC, Steel Wheel Saloon (Namur) and BHC volunteers.  See the PDF for a list of top prizes and sponsors - it is a huge prize list and we print a limited number of tickets. Tickets are $10 each, three for $20 and 20 for $100. Raffle will be on Facebook Live. Join Gary Chaudoir of Chaudoir Glass Studios for a mosaic glass workshop from 9:00-3:00. Gary will guide you as you create your own mosaic ornaments. Workshop price ranges from $10-20 per person depending on the pattern selected and includes the price of one 4x6 inch ornament. Participants will choose from 15 different precut shapes (see PDF below for samples) using precut stained-glass chips, tumbled to remove sharp edges. Thousands of colors are available. This popular activity is fun for the whole family. Reservations are recommended for groups of 4 or more; please email contact@belgianheritagecenter.org with your arrival time and number in your group. Please arrive by 2:00 to allow plenty of time to create your ornaments.
