2024 Weekend Hours

The Belgian Heritage Center will be open Friday, Saturday and Sunday starting May 24. Regular hours are from 10:00 to 3:00. Visits can also be arranged by appointment by emailing tourinfo@belgianheritagecenter.org or by calling 920-493-5969 at least a week in advance. We look forward to your visit!
Special Presentation - "Shot Down"

BHC and the Peninsula Belgian American Club are pleased to host Speaker/Author Steve Snyder at the Belgian Heritage Center. Steve's father, Howard Snyder, was a pilot stationed in England during World War II. On February 8, 1944, his plane, the B-17 Susan Ruth, was shot down over the French/Belgium border after a mission to bomb Frankfurt, Germany. Steve will share power point presentation on how he researched and wrote a book about the assistance of Belgians to hide his father from the Germans. His book will be for sale at the presentation.
There is no fee to attend this event. A short meeting will precede the speaker.
Door County History Week Event at BHC

Belgian Heritage Center will feature a talk on Thursday, June 20 at 1:00 pm, The Belgian Settler's Success Shaped by Land and Water. We will look back at the economic development of the Belgian settlements and the important role of local docks and the waters of Green Bay. Visitors will be able to view old-time hand implements used by settlers to improve their livelihood. Belgian desserts will be available to purchase and there will also be plenty of time to check out the exhibits and visit the restored school/convent.
Waffle Breakfast

Ends: June 30, 2024 at 12:00 pm
There will be a waffle breakfast on Sunday, June 30 at the Belgian Heritage Center. Breakfast includes waffles, trippe (a Belgian sausage), eggs and a beverage. Proceeds support the Belgian Heritage Center. Price is $12 for adults, $7 for children 4-12, free for children 3 and under.

Lime Kilns of Door County

Lime was an essential ingredient in building the pioneer structures in Door County. Many house and barn foundations that are in use today were constructed with the lime mortar. Don Rudolph will explain the lime making process and show the locations of lime kiln sites in the county.

History of Belgian American Clubs in Northeast Wisconsin

Gary VandenHouten will share information he found in local newspaper articles about the 100+ year history of the clubs and how they served the Belgian community. Jack Alexander will share information more recent history he recalls growing up in the Namur area and some of the events he was aware of.

2024 BHC Kermiss

Our BHC Kermiss will be a great event - silent auction; antique farm implements; raffles; Belgian pie, trippe, booyah, jutt, craft beer and Belgian fellowship. The popular band Mad Cats will perform and antique farm equipment will be on display. Please join us!
Great Fire Remembrance

A remembrance of the Great Fire of 1871 will be held on Saturday, October 5 at the Belgian Heritage Center. Captain David Siegel of the Green Bay Metro Fire Department (retired) will speak
about the unusual nature of the Great Fire and why it was so deadly for
so many. A re-enactment of the experiences of Emmerence Gaspart Englebert, a Great Fire survivor will be performed by her great-granddaughter, Barb Englebert Chisholm at 11:00. Everyone is welcome and there is no admission required. We especially encourage students and anyone who wants to learn more about the Great Fire to attend.

The Belgian Heritage Center is a great location to host your event. BHC’s facilities accommodate family reunions, weddings, conferences and other gatherings. Options include indoor or outdoor gathering, catering kitchen, banquet tables/chairs, audio/visual equipment and food service equipment.
