New Oral History Video Showings

BHC now has five new oral history videos with stories of the Belgian Settlement told in English and Walloon.  Hear about the immigration, the challenges of the early settlers and the traditions that continue to this day.  With the generosity of our supporters we now have 10 oral history videos and excellent audio/visual equipment for a great viewing experience. Showings will be at 10:00 and 1:00 on October 20, 21, 27, 28.  Click the link below for more information.

If you live or have lived in a part of eastern Wisconsin where Walloon/Belgian is spoken, or have another connection to this community, UWEC would love to hear your thoughts!  You are invited to participate in an anonymous survey about your experience with and attitude toward this unique heritage language.  The purpose of this survey is to obtain a quantitative description of community attitudes toward Belgian (or Wisconsin Walloon) to inform ongoing materials development and promotion efforts. The Belgian Heritage Center is a perfect church-like setting for weddings and wakes/funerals. The Belgian Heritage Center is also available for rental for private events such as meetings, conferences and family reunions.
